LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Rothiemurchus is something of a paradise for all year-round outdoor pursuits. It offers world-class walking and hiking within picture-postcard scenery. If you prefer four legs to two for traveling, saddle up on a Highland pony. Our home is also a cyclist’s dream, especially for mountain bikers, but also for road cycling and families who are happy to pedal their way around the off-road paths and bike hire is available onsite. You can use other wheels too, with quad bike trekking to be booked on-site. There’s also clay target shooting, river adventures – tubing, float rafting, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, a range of fishing experiences, wildlife watching, falconry, and sports such as tennis and archery to choose from. Or, if you have a head for heights, head for the Treezone – a Tree Top adventure that will challenge your group!
When conditions are suitable there is snow there is skiing at Cairngorm Mountain just up the road beyond Glenmore, at The Lecht just beyond Tomintoul or Nevis Range near Fort William.
Of course, this wonderful part of the world offers you a host of other great places to visit. Whether you’re interested in mystery or magnificent views, Loch Ness is just over an hour’s drive to the west. With the Boat House situated in Speyside, you’ll arguably be staying in the greatest malt whisky region in the world, with celebrated distilleries such as Macallan, Balvenie and Glenfiddich also around an hour away by car and your host can arrange exclusive guided tours. Scotland’s famous for its castles too, of course, and with Cawdor and Brodie castles nearby, not to mention the royal seat of Balmoral, it’s easy to brush up on a bit of history at the Highland Folk Museum For younger guests, the Landmark Forest Adventure Park and Highland Wildlife Park, both just a short trip away, will prove to be popular destinations.
